Emerald – Surprisingly Comfortable
As caring and trusted dentists, we always try to preserve teeth where we can. There are, however, times when dental extractions at our Rockhampton and Emerald dental clinics are necessary. So when are those times and what can you expect?
The procedure can usually be completed in one to two appointments depending on your circumstances and the condition of the tooth. Getting a root canal is no more painful than a regular tooth filling or wisdom tooth extraction. You’ll soon be back to biting and chewing with ease. Find out more or book an appointment with our experienced dentists– we will soon have you smiling again.

What is root canal treatment in Rockhampton?

Root canal treatment is an endodontic procedure that eliminates bacteria from an infected root canal, prevents infection recurring, and saves the natural tooth. During root canal treatment the infected or inflamed pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, before being filled and sealed.
The pulp is located beneath the tooth enamel and a hard layer known as dentin. It contains an amalgamation of blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue which feeds and supports the tooth during its development.
A fully grown tooth can survive without the pulp because the tissues surrounding it continue to supply nourishment.

Saving a natural tooth has many benefits:

  • Normal biting force and sensation is maintained
  • Natural appearance is also maintained
  • Efficient chewing is not affected
  • Other teeth are protected from excessive wear

What to expect after root canal treatment

Whether you have root canal treatment in Emerald or Rockhampton, you can expect your mouth to feel sore or tender once the effects of the anaesthesia wear off. You may also feel mild discomfort for a few days which can be eased with over the counter painkillers such as Ibuprofen.
Most patients are able to return to school or work the same day but are advised to avoid eating until the mouth is no longer numb.
Following root canal treatment in Rockhampton or Emerald, the tooth is likely to need restoring with a dental crown to prevent further damage to the tooth from biting forces. If you’re suffering from severe tooth pain, contact A2Z Dental. Our friendly dentists are standing by to assist.
Note: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks.
